Biography
Colin Hector is a seasoned consumer protection and appellate lawyer with over a decade of experience fighting corporate misconduct. He joins the firm following a long and successful career in federal and state government service.At the federal level, Colin was Senior Litigation Counsel at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and previously held multiple roles at the Federal Trade Commission, including Counsel to the Director of Consumer Protection and Enforcement Attorney in the Division of Financial Practices. He led complex enforcement actions against fly-by-night scams and Fortune 500 companies alike, securing more than $100 million in monetary judgments. He also played a key role in federal policy initiatives, drafting portions of the FTC’s Combatting Auto Retail Scams Act—the model for California’s 2026 CARS Act—authoring Congressional testimony, and consulting on the FTC’s privacy and marketing practices rulemakings.
Colin was also an Assistant Attorney General in the Wisconsin DOJ’s Special Litigation & Appeals Unit, where he handled dozens of appeals in state and federal appeals courts. Among other things, he represented Governor Evers and the Secretary of Health in a series of high-profile Wisconsin Supreme Court cases concerning the state’s COVID-19 safety measures.
Colin is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, where he founded the school’s Consumer Advocacy Protection Society, provided legal services as an inaugural member of the East Bay Community Law Center’s Neighborhood Justice Clinic, and authored three published articles on consumer protection issues. He is proud to reunite with his friend and fellow CAPS and EBCLC alumni Elliot Conn in continuing to advocate for consumers’ rights.
A Bay Area native, Colin lives with his wife in the Outer Richmond neighborhood of San Francisco.
